binkie's not been himself ever since i came back from down under.
i thought he was angry at me, for travelling so much, or that he was simply getting older and getting into other diet habits.
but as he continued to eat less and less until he just stopped eating this week i finally took him to the vet tonight....wish i'd done it before.
it turns out he has serious kidney failure (that's what it's called in english i think) and it doesn't look good at all. his blood levels are extremely high (one thing is 43 for example but it's only supposed to be 12 max, another is 880 and that's only supposed to be 200 max) and need to go down...quick.
so tonight he immediately got his first drip, a shot of anti-biotics and a pill to get rid of something that's causing blisters in his mouth. for the next 3 days i need to go back with him every day for more drips. and then on monday night they'll do another blood test to see if his blood levels have gone down enough. my vet's already happy if they went down by 50% she said...
Oh Sweet-heart. I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how sad you must feel. :( I hope he'll be alright again and that the treatment will work fast. Give him big hugs and cuddles from me. Thinking of you both, Katrine
ReplyDeleteI hope Blinkie will be okay, his 880 level will be his Creatine level… yes it is very high! Certainly at that level it indicates severe Kidney Failure, a human with a Creatine level like that would be on dialysis, waiting for a transplants or in rejection stages of there own kidneys.
ReplyDeleteCreatine is a very important compound that is naturally produced by our bodies because it performs the function of allowing our muscles to contract. However, this is not the only function that Creatine can perform in our bodies, as there are also other uses for them, which include using the Creatine levels in our bodies to diagnose any abnormalities in our bodies. One example of this is on how kidney function can be determined by getting the Creatine levels that is present in the blood. This is because given the fact that Creatine is excreted entirely by the kidney, any abnormalities in the level of Creatine levels in the blood could mean an abnormality in the kidneys. In doing the test, there are a number of issues that people should be aware of like on the preparations they need to do and the precautions they should look out for, so that they would get accurate results.
In English serious Kidney / Renal failure would be known as Chronic Renal Failure or End Stage Renal Failure.
I hope Blinkie will be okay Sarah, fingers crossed he makes a good recovery for you. It’s awful when our pets get sick.
Hej meis, hoe is het nu met hem (en jou)? Ik wens jullie allebei veel sterkte en natuurlijk ook veel beterschap voor Binkie!
ReplyDeleteLiefs,
Marèse
